Marvin Neubecker, 75, of West Branch

Marvin Lee Neubecker passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at age 75. Marvin was born in Rose City, MI, on August 15, 1948, to Leon and Viola (Wangler) Neubecker, the eldest of nine children.

He graduated from Rose City High in 1966, and attended Central Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and biology. He also served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Albany, New York. After he returned to West Branch, he worked for Pepsi Co., and then retired after 35 years of dedicated service. He married and had two children, Darian Lee Neubecker and Jenelle Lynn Neubecker.

He had an interest in computers early on in their development, and completed an associate’s degree in computer science at Kirtland Community College where he was invited into Phi Theta Kappa. He hunted, processed his own deer meat, and during the summer with his son and daughter, harvested timber in the woods for firewood to use during the winter. After he retired, he cleared land and built his own house.

He was passionate about sports, arguing with anyone that had the patience for it, and loved spending time with his family and friends drinking Busch Light and watching the ball games. He spent many nights driving the back roads and trails listening to the Tigers and Ernie Harwell. He often played cards at the Moose Lodge, and heaven have mercy on anyone who trumped his Left. As a younger man, he hiked in the Adirondacks and read a lot of the classics. A quote from a favorite book of his is, “We’re free to go where we wish and to be what we are.” He will be missed by all.

He is survived by his son Darian (Sofia) Neubecker, daughter Jenelle Neubecker, and grandchildren Sloane, Siena, and Tristan Neubecker. Marvin’s legacy lives on through his siblings Doreen Sutherland, Jerry Neubecker, Virgil (Joanie) Neubecker, Calvin (Cheryl) Neubecker, Dallas (Cathy) Neubecker, Randy (Gloria) Neubecker, and Sharol (Mark) Dantzer.

In addition to his immediate family, Marvin is remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins and friends who were touched by his kindness and warmth.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Gregory.
