Dan Pothoof, 61, of Houghton Lake

Daniel (Dan) L. Pothoof passed away peacefully on June 11, 2024, at the age of 61. Born on November 17, 1962, in Clare, Michigan, he was the beloved son of Robert and Anna (Fowler) Pothoof. Dan’s final days were spent surrounded by the love and care of his family at the Brook in Houghton Lake, MI.

Dan graduated from Houghton Lake High School, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life filled with dedication and hard work. Dan’s professional life was a testament to his strong work ethic, as he retired from Halliday’s Sand & Gravel Company as a respected foreman. His colleagues remember him as a man who led by example and always lent a helping hand.

Family was the cornerstone of Dan’s life. He was a devoted father to Sarah Pothoof, Jenifer (David) Comstock, and Steven (Megan) Pothoof, and a stepfather to Joe and Noel Kohnke. Dan’s joy was multiplied with the arrival of each grandchild, and he took immense pride in his grandchildren: Sophie Kohnke, Allyson Comstock, and Owen Comstock. He is also survived by his loving mother, Anna White, and his siblings, Doug Pothoof and Cindy (Cindy) Pothoof. Dan was preceded in death by his father, Robert Pothoof, and his brother, Paul Pothoof.

Dan’s interests and hobbies were as rich and varied as his life. He was an avid golfer, finding peace and camaraderie on the greens. Fishing was another passion, providing him with quiet moments of reflection and a connection to nature. Dan also enjoyed the occasional thrill of a trip to the casino and cherished the simple pleasure of camping under the stars. Above all, Dan’s greatest joy was found in the time he spent with his family, whether it was a holiday gathering, a birthday celebration, or just an ordinary day filled with laughter and love.

Those who knew Dan would describe him as loving, courageous, and generous. He faced life’s challenges with a brave heart and never hesitated to extend his generosity to those in need. His warm smile and kind spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Dan will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, strength, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched. Dan’s life was a beautiful reflection of the values he held dear, and his memory will be cherished forever.

Per Dan’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no service is scheduled at this time
