Nick Beck Jr., 95, of Gladwin

Nickolas Michael Beck JR, 95, passed away after a short illness, on June 30, 2023, after a very happy and fullfilled life.  Nickolas was born September 25, 1927 in Midland city to Nickolas and Katherine (Katie) (Furst) Beck. He was the oldest of 9 children.  He married the love of his life, Susan Ann Pnacek, on October 9, 1948, in Midland. They resided in Midland until moving  to Gladwin in 1961. They had  52 wonderful years before she passed in 2010.

He served in US Military, World War II era from April 23, 1946 to April 30, 1947, and was sent home because the war was over.  He worked at Bordens Dairy in Midland,  for 17 years, making ice cream and cheeses until the plant shut down and then delivered milk door to door in Midland County.  He was a long time farmer and bought his farm in Grout township a year before Bordens’ Dairy shut down, forcing him to, after various jobs, start milking cows, which he continued to do until he was 80 years old.

Nick will be deeply missed by his son Richard (Julie) Beck, of Gladwin, son Gerald Beck of Gladwin, daughter Angeline (George) Dunn of Gladwin.  His grandchildren Cherri (Jeff ) Swanstra of Gladwin, Kurt Dunn of Gladwin, Shawn Beck of Gladwin, Carrie Dunn Carnes of Canton, and Alicia (Brian ) Taylor of Gladwin.  His great-grandchildren Alexander and Cameron Greer, Elle and Zachary Carnes,  Xavier Taylor, and Royce James

Nick is also survived by the following brothers and sisters, Jim Beck of  Pinconning, Barbara (Dennis) Broderick of Rhodes, Nancy Stantan of Rhodes, and Chuck Howe of Pinconning, preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill Beck and Ralph Howe and sisters Betty Ann Pomranky and Sally LaForest.

Survived by many more loving family friends.

Nick will be carried by pallbearers Kurt Dunn, Jeff Swanstra, Shawn Beck, Alexander Greer, Cameron Greer, Royce James. Honorary pallbearers Zachary Carnes and Xavier Taylor.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, July 6, 2023, 11:00 A.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 2-8:00 P.M. and on Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. He will be laid to rest at Grout Township Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made according to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or according to the wishes of the family.
