Dave Foley, 70, of Oscoda

David Foley, age 70, of Oscoda, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2023, in Tawas City, Michigan.

Dave was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on October 1, 1952, to the late David and Shirley Foley. He was a lifelong Oscoda resident and was a proud member of the 1971 Oscoda High School graduating class. In high school Dave was known not only for his charismatic personality, but for his impressive athletic talents. He was an exceptional football and basketball player, but his baseball career was his best as he was an all-state pitcher and led the Oscoda Owls to several wins throughout his tenure.

Following high school, he attended Ferris State University for a few years before ultimately enlisting into the United States Army. Dave honorably served our country for several years and was proud to be a member that worked for the Pentagon during a time like the Vietnam War. Following his time serving our country, he returned to Michigan where he began his career in the food and restaurant industry as a manager. He worked for several nice restaurants or steakhouses in the metro Detroit area, before he eventually brought himself back up to Oscoda, Michigan.

Dave had a huge passion for golf and his Lakewood Shores family. The memories and friendships he made on the course were very important to him, and his impact on that group is second to none. He was an avid University of Michigan fan and would use any opportunity he had to boast about his favorite team. There were very few times that Dave was seen without one article of clothing being maize and blue.

One thing that would always associate with Dave is his dog Sam. Sam and Dave were the best of friends ever since he brought him home in the palm of his hands. Family was always very important to Dave. He served as a caretaker for not only his mom and dad, but also for his sister. Dave had a personality that would light up a room. He was a guy that would do absolutely anything for anyone, and his presence around our community will be missed dearly.

Dave is survived by his brother, Steve (Dana) Foley. Steve and Dave had a truly special relationship. They were always together sharing memories and had a friendship that most dream of. Dave is also survived by his children, David Foley, Erin Greve, and Alexandra Rice; five grandchildren; nieces, Sara Howard, Geri Harris, and Jennifer Auger; and his nephew that he was very close with, Steven Foley.

There will be a memorial service held for Dave on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Buresh Funeral Homes in Oscoda, Michigan. The family will welcome the public at 10:00 AM for visitation. Unselfishly, Dave’s wishes were for his body to help others as he was enrolled in the anatomical donation program through the University of Michigan. You may offer an online condolence at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
