Two Mio men injured in truck accident

MIO – The Oscoda County Sheriff’s office responded to a two-vehicle accident May 17.

According to a statement from Sheriff Kevin Grace, at about 6:55 p.m., Oscoda County 911 received multiple calls in reference to a crash with injuries on M-33 near Pond Drive in Big Creek Township.

The investigation indicated that a tan-colored, 2010 GMC Terrain was driving north on M-33 when the accident occurred. The driver of the Terrain was attempting to turn west on to Pond Drive, crossing into the path of an oncoming 2015 Chevy Silverado pickup.

Officers rendered aid to the two occupants of the Terrain and assisted with extraction, until fire and EMS personnel took over. Occupants in the terrain sustained serious injuries with the driver. a 21-year-old-male Mio man, being airlifted to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

The passenger of the Terrain, also a 21-year-old Mio man, was transported to Munson in Grayling, and later transferred to Traverse City for treatment. Both men are listed in serious but stable condition.

The driver (51) and passenger (27) of the Chevy Silverado were uninjured and refused medical treatment. Both reside in Mikado.

The incident is under investigation. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor at this time.
