Charles R. McDonald passed away on June 21, 2024. He was born on September 4, 1939, in Prescott, MI. Charles had a remarkable life filled with wonderful experiences and accomplishments.
Charles graduated from Rose City High School in the class of 1958. Immediately after graduation, he enlisted in the military. Charles served in the US Navy for 6 years and then in the US Army for 3 years, during which he proudly served during Vietnam. He earned many medals including Good Conduct, Sharpshooter Rifle, and Vietnam Service with 2 Bronze Stars. Charles transitioned to a civilian career after he was honorably discharged in 1968. He dedicated 32 years of his life delivering lumber for Wickes Lumber in St. Helen, where he made lasting friendships with his customers and colleagues. His work ethic and generosity were well-known among those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Outside of work, he found joy in coin collecting. After retirement, he cherished moments spent at the St. Helen Senior Center and also enjoyed spending many winters in McAllen, TX.
Among his proudest accomplishments were his roles as a devoted husband and loving father. Charles is survived by his son Kevin (Terry) McDonald, daughter DeeAnn (Phillip) Hamilton, eleven grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Ann and Sue.
Charles was predeceased by his parents Gerald and Eugenie McDonald, brother Gary, first wife Sheila, and second wife Dorothy. Charles leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and love that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
