REGION- Judy Maxson and Billy Ramer, who have been good friends for over 30 years, volunteer frequently together. They were nominated and received recognition in Lansing for the MI Community Action Volunteer Award.
Combined, they have almost 20 years of volunteering with the RSVP Program, a program that helps those over 55 years of age find volunteer opportunities in the community. NEMCSA sponsors the AmeriCorps RSVP Senior Volunteer Program and has over 300 volunteers and while every volunteer is appreciated, Judy and Bill stand out.
Both Judy and Billy volunteer with the American Red Cross during bi-monthly blood drives in Roscommon and West Branch.
Judy and Bill have also made a significant impact on the food programs offered at NEMCSA. They help pack food boxes and assist with food distributions at various locations, as well as delivering food boxes to home-bound individuals.
They also assist the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency and a shelter in Roscommon with their food distributions and deliveries.
In addition to volunteering with NEMCSA’s Food Program, Judy and Bill volunteer with their local church and the local veteran’s club.
Through the years, they have served at several different locations in two counties for over 2,000 hours served by each.
