  • Mermaid Shop reopens in new location
    The Mermaid Shop in Roscommon reopened at their new location the evening of Girls Night Out.
  • Locals volunteer in Copper Harbor to promote tourism

    COPPER HARBOR - Not long after the early morning sunlight broke Monday over the gray-shingled roofs at Fort Wilkins Historic State Park in Copper Harbor, Michigan, the dizzying sounds of a swarm of activity began to fill the skies from behind the pointed stockade fence.

    Six volunteers from Ogemaw, Roscommon, and Crawford Counties joined nearly 155 others from around the state to work.

  • Roscommon Clerk elected as 2nd Vice President of MARD
    PORT HURON - The Michigan Association of Register of Deeds (MARD) recently held their 104th Annual Educational Conference in Port Huron. The conference was hosted by St. Clair County Register of Deeds/Clerk Jay DeBoyer and current MARD President, Teresa Walker, Montmorency County Register of Deeds. Registers representing 51 of Michigan’s 83 counties were in attendance for the conference.

    The Grayling Promotional Association recently announced the election of its new officers.
  • Cadillac native promoted to lieutenant at Seventh District Headquarters
    GAYLORD - The Michigan State Police has announced the promotion of Detective Sergeant Travis House to lieutenant. He will serve as Public Information Officer and Spokesperson for the Seventh District Headquarters in this new rank.
  • Neighbors – Fred Kendall

    MIO - Fred Kendall was born in October of 1946 in Holt, Michigan to parents with strong ties to Oscoda County.

    Moving to Mio in 1957 Fred attended the Mio school system from the sixth grade through graduation as a senior.

    MIO - A new business opened in Mio, The Daily Grind, a coffee shop and more.
  • Snowmobile Trail No. 7 in Otsego County to open Dec. 1 for snowmobiling season
    GAYLORD - An 11-mile trail segment that currently is being improved along Snowmobile Trail No. 7 in Otsego County will reopen Dec. 1 for the snowmobile season. The ongoing project, which will make way for additional year-round motorized and non-motorized trail use, will continue construction this spring.
  • Oct. 20 saw a Farmfest Halloween happening in Johannesburg Michigan. Farmfest was born in 1998. It is hosted by Stacy Jo Schiller who owns the farm. The mission of Farmfest is to support the performing arts while blending nature and music. Their Halloween event celebrates the change of seasons with food, music and costumes.

    ROSCOMMON - The Crawford-Roscommon Conservation District joined the Farm Market at the AuSable River Center in Roscommon Sept. 22 for their annual Conservation Expo.

    GRAYLING - Michigan National Guard Soldiers will be finishing up their weapon qualifications this week and it will begin to quiet down out here at Camp for the first couple of weeks of November. Please respect all closed gates and call our office prior to travelling around any closed gate, even when you feel this may be in error.
  • Coleman Lions celebrate 78 years of service with dinner and auction

    COLEMAN - Coleman Lions celebrated 78 years of service to the community by holding their Charter Night Dinner and Auction party October 27, 2018. District Governor Al Roeseler, also a Coleman Lions member, welcomed everyone, including many Lions from around the state.

    The Coleman volunteer Fire Department was honored this year. President Chuck Dinsmore presented “Heart of the Lion” awards to Fire Chief Bill Cozat, Captain Kyle Shelby and Lieutenant Don Haske. A framed certificate was also presented to be hung at the Fire Station.

    GRAYLING - This summer the Grayling Visitors Bureau, the Grayling Regional Chamber of Commerce and environmental conservation nonprofit Huron Pines teamed up to host a photo contest to capture the people, places, events and attractions that make the Grayling area a unique place to live, work and play.
  • Woman rescued from AuSable River
    CRAWFORD COUNTY, MICH. - Emergency responders were sent to the AuSable River in South Branch Township of Crawford County on October 25, 2018 at about 1 p.m. to help a distressed kayaker.

    MIO - Our Lady of the Woods Shrine first took shape in the mind of a young itinerate priest as he shoveled knee-deep snow to clear a path for worshippers at St. Mary Church, in Mio, Michigan.
  • Range Firing Schedule for the period of October 14 – 20, 2018
    GRAYLING – A large number of Law enforcement units will continue to train here during this time period. Michigan National Guard Soldiers will begin their Annual Qualification requirement the month of October. 
  • History of the Grayling Air Service
    GRAYLING - One can’t be in Grayling very long without noticing the incredible amount of air traffic overhead. An eclectic array of aircraft, both military and civilian, flit, thump and zoom across the sky’s, landing, taking off and conducting maneuvers that qualify the pilots to command their aircraft in both peace time and war.
  • 'Santa's Coming to town'
    REGION - Lake State Railway will deliver Santa, Mrs. Claus, the elves and several other well known television personalities to Roscommon and Grayling Dec. 1 to visit with the children and help collect toys for the “Toys For Tot’s” program.
